We’re back in Bangkok. Weronika’s mom flew in and joined us for a couple of weeks of traveling. The city is huge and we definitely did not even scratch the surface when we were here a few months ago, so there was plenty to see.
We had a lot of ground to cover. First, we needed to take care of some beaurocracy and get our visas to Myanmar. Next, there was the shopping and nightlife, which involved a mandatory trip to the Patpong red light/shopping district.
It was Weronika’s mom’s birthday, so we splurged. A Bangkok sunset is hard to find, with the huge sprawling city and generally no visible horizons. We went to the Banyan Tree hotel where the rooftop restaurant and bar offer fantastic views of the sunset and delicious drinks. It was a nice change of pace to get away from cheap tourist bars and have a nice scotch in style. However, we could not get used to this since traveling for an extended time involves budgeting, and sunsets in Bangkok do not come at backpacker prices.
